Rest! Jesus has got your back

Sunday, 16 Sept 2012.

Rest! Jesus has got your back.

One of the most comforting thing u know is that Jesus has got your back along the whole journey of life!

Introduction:
What a nice way to live when we do not have to always watch our backs all the time because Jesus is there to cover and watch over us.

Even when we forget to pray about things, God still watches our backs!

2 ways that we can live:
Gal 4:21-28
Slaves or Sons.

Slaves have to perform in order to be blessed. Stressed.
Sons have to simply received all that the Father has for us. Restful.

God's heart of us is to live as sons. He does not want us to live a life of striving, fighting and trying but simply resting and trusting.

Promise VS Performance Living:
Rom 4:16. Live by faith to receive the promise.

If u depend on performance to get, then you better be perfect BUT if u depend on the promise of a loving Father, then you can be certain u receive it!

The greatest experiences of grace comes in moments when we do not deserve it.

When it is by faith according to grace, the results are mind-blowing!

When it is God who performs, the results are phenomenal BUT when man performs, the results are ordinary.

When it is by grace, it may take time. But every single step of the way, it is restful and enjoyable because we simply look to Jesus and what He is doing.

May we have the eyes of grace to see what God sees in our circumstances so that hope may arise in our hearts!

John 1:17 'law VS grace'

Genesis 12:1-3 ' the blessings of God in Abram's life'

'the LORD said to Abram'
-LORD in hebrew means Hand:grace:nailed:grace. Clearly represents Jesus.

'I will' x 5 times.
Grace always comes and says 'I will'

Testimonies:
Phil 4:11 'I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me'
-Grace gives us the strength to do things we could never do before.
Example of a primary school coming in 3rd in his class in his NAFA when he could not even pass in the first place.

Ecc 9:11 'Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to those with knowledge, but time and chance happen to them all.'
-Grace puts us at the right place and the right time.
Example of how this banker who serves in Rock Kidz got a 350million deal (despite 3 competing banks) as she simply meditated on how Jesus performed so many miracles in the gospel and trusted in his grace to put her at the right place and at the right!

Rom 5:17
Grace reigns when are know we are righteous in Christ.

More on righteousness:
Gen 17:10-11
-Grace cut a covenant with Abraham.
This covenant was sealed by circumcision. It is so painful?!
What so significance about circumcision?
Rom 4:11 'circumcision is a seal of our righteousness in Christ'

Circumcision is painful because we have to realize it is an act done to us while we are in a position of rest and not something we can do for ourselves. This is a picture of depending on grace and not our efforts.

Closing grace examples of Jesus:

1. Grace helps even when there is not a need to.
John 2:1-11
Jesus turned water into wine.
-Even this was not a life and death situation, God still blessed them because He specializes in being joy to families and new wedded couples.

2. Grace helps when no one else wants to.
Luke 19:1-10.
Jesus reaching out to zacchaeus, the tax collector. Although no one would have come to help him because he was blood sucker of money, Jesus came to help and save him.

3. Grace helps when no one can help.
John 11:38-53
Story of Lazarus. When no one could help him , Jesus came to resurrect him!
