Luke 13:22-27
‘strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to
enter and will not be able.’
Matthew 7:13-14
‘Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
‘Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
As much as these verses seem to indicate that few will be
saved, we see in Revelation 7:9-10 that ‘a great multitude which no one could number,
of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues…’ will be gathered at the throne
saying ‘Salvation belongs to our God’
Because Jesus is the way, truth and the life, it is easier
to be saved than to be lost because all we need is to call on the name of the
Lord and be saved.
Contrary to popular belief, Jesus never used the law to
condemn people but he gave the law to convict them and bring them to the end of
themselves so that they will turn to him.
Luke 18 – Rich young ruler, for the proud, Jesus gave the
law
Luke 19 – Zacchaeus, for the humble, Jesus gave grace
GATE VS DOOR
‘GATE’ – the use of this word is seen as a place associated
with judgment.
Example: Duet 16:18 – ‘gates… they shall judge the people with just judgment’
Example: Duet 16:18 – ‘gates… they shall judge the people with just judgment’
‘DOOR’ – the use of this word is related to deliverance,
provision and salvation.
Example: John 10:7-10 – ‘Jesus is the door of the sheep’ ; The door where the blood was sprinkle upon that brought deliverance to the people; Gen 6 – the door of Noah’s Ark that was shut to protect the people from the flood. Offering is always placed at the door of the tabernacle –Moses.
Gen 18:2 ‘in the heat of the day, Moses sat at the door and
the Lord appeared to him’
Application: Learn to sit at the door and experience God’s
presence when you are stressed. Everything starts at the door – the door of the
sheep is Jesus =)
Hosea 2:15 ‘valley of archor (trouble)’, a door of hope
Application: In the very valley of trouble we face, God brings a door of hope right at our doorstep!
