Many people think that the Bible is hard to understand and not practical to today's life. If that is you, have you ever tried reading a Proverb a day? There are 31 chapters in Proverbs, which means that you can read one every day according to the date. For example for today, 20 June 2009, I can read Proverbs 20. And when you read, ask God to give you a verse that you can apply to your life today. Keep it in your mind and keep thinking about it as you go about doing your stuff of the day. Because Proverbs is so practical and applicable, you will surely be able to see it working in all walks of life =)
I used to think that I had to read many many chapters a day to get something for the Bible, but I realized that when I read so much, I get drowsy and hardly get anything from my time with God's Word. But when I started reading just a Proverb a day, asking God to give me something to apply to my life, I was able to keep a verse in mind and see the Word of God come alive in my every day living =)
If you are struggling with you daily time with God's Word, start with a Proverb a day and see how God wants to change your thinking and actions inside out =) Use an easier translation like NLT or ESV when you need help =) I have been doing a Proverb a day for a long time now and trust me, if you take it seriously and ask God for help to apply it, you will take a life time to learn all you need in the Book of Proverbs. Praise God for such a practical book that contains timeless principles and rules of life!!
Maybe you have found yourself thinking, saying and doing silly things you regret after a while. Some of us more often than others. Don't be discouraged, there is HOPE for all of us!
It's really simple and you will not regret reading God's Word! Read one chapter of Proverbs and ask God for one verse you can keep in mind to apply throughout the day. Don't start reading it before you go to bed =) And if you need help understanding, don't assume on God's Word and take it to mean what you want it to mean. Ask for help, ask the Holy Spirit in you, ask other Christ-like believers. Instead of talking about the normal stuff, talk about Proverbs when you see each other, or over sms or msn or facebook. As you learn, share it with others, don't be selfish with what God is teaching you =) Help yourselves and others to grow in Christ!
Proverbs 1:4 (NLT) "These proverbs will give insight to the simple,
knowledge and discernment to the young."
Proverbs 23:23 (ESV) "Buy truth, and do not sell it;
buy wisdom, instruction, and understanding."
