Safe in The Millers' place, Des Moines

Greetings to all,

I'm trying to adapt as soon as I can and get as many things done before I get to school this Saturday. Just in case you do not know, I'm 14 hrs behind you. I've both timings on my phone and watches so I'm pretty much aware of what time it is over there too. Oh well, I can't deny I miss you a lot. At least I seeing and learning so many new things here, so it's not that bad. On the long plane rides, it was quite bad I must say. But true enough as I said, every time I miss you, I will pray for u! Hope God has been working in your life. May u pray for His will to be done in your life everyday before you start it! =) I'm glad to be united in prayer though we are worlds apart, really. I thank God for one thing that u do not get in s'pore: the beautiful landscapes! Wow, to me they are awesome! The locals find the cold weather down here bad but it appears to be very special to me! I see real snow for the 1st time in my life. Haha I was telling the family how we made 'fake' snow back in family as Christmas decorations. Kind of sad because you get it free and real nice & fuzzy here! But, with the good always comes the bad of course cos I have to make sure I put on lots of winter clothes before I get out. This house has fire place which burns big pieces of wood, it really good cos it keeps the home warm and nice! Haha, I seem to have so much to say though I'm really sleepy. It's about 12midnight here and I'm still trying to beat the jet lag. I'm still coughing with a running nose that runs real bad outdoors in the cold. I'm thankful the miller family is treating me like their family. Thank God for that too! He knows my needs indeed! I've tried stuff I had never had in s'pore. There is this drink that is called egg nog that taste like egg 'tao huey'(bean curd) in Chomp Chomp along serangoon gardens. It's very sweet! I had to add water. Basically, most of the things here are sweet! Haha, so you think I'll probably get some fats up my tummy and face? ha ha that will be new, good maybe.

Oh do pray for me as I'm not feeling too good here with lousy stomach and dry spells in my head now and then. My school will start officially next Monday. I'm sure excited but guess what I heard it's colder up north! Anyhow, I have just got to get used to it sooner or later =p
I'm sleepy but I'm not really talking rubbish.. or am I? Ha ha, papa miller just came in with some apple cinder for my throat. See, thank God for such a hospitable family that takes good care of me. Haha, they got blessed too but some Asian place mats/napkins/coasters from s'pore my mama packed for me. Haha, mama miller was delighted to see them. Oh and they got some chop sticks too. Told them I got to make sure they learn it before I leave after 4 years. Talking about school, the ride up will take us about 6 hours up north from here to BCM (Baptist College of ministry). That will be long but I guess it will be an interesting experience too I'm sure =)
I've been out shopping with mama miller. She's a good shopper who has an eye for good deals. I mean good with a capital G. Haha she gets ties that cost up to 30 bucks for 1.99. Think we have good deals in s'pore, check that out! Oh, they have a German shepherd as the supposed watch dog around the house. I'm sure you all will like it. Maybe I could take a picture with him and send u guys. haha after 4 weeks, they still have not decided if they want to name it dusty or justy. I thought that didn't matter much cos they sound the same anyway. He barks and jumps a lot at you but doesn't bite, thankfully. Big and nice dog to have here to scare unwanted guest like humans or even a deer! haha I know this is something you might not have heard before but here, they go pigeon, deer, animal hunting a lot. They say they will bring me one day with their huge guns, I'm excited. Sorry, I will try to miss all the shots at animals. Haha I'm actually more excited for the feel of the guns firing rounds! They have many(30-50) here and they are cool (obviously cos it's illegal and a big no no in s'pore)!
Ok, I have written a lot haven I? =) haha, I will update you all again when I have the time. Lots to say and thank the Lord about but I think I had better hit the bed. Haha, I'm catching their lingo a little bit here already I think. Take care my dear ones! Hear from you soon. Oh the com at this house here in Des monies runs on a dial up internet line which is real slow. Haha that is why I have a hard time getting into my mailbox or msn."Patience, patience, patience," they say. But sometimes, it doesn't work at all! Not used to it cos in s'pore it's a lot faster. I think I better go before I start rattling off some more. I think I can just go on and on... hehe, as usual for some of you might say ;-)
Prayers are sent upward for u all here! Look up; we are under the same sky with our awesome and living God who knows us by name!
Have a blessed day today and I will hear from you soon hopefully.

Here is my mail I prefer: benjiquek@gmail.com. Drop me a mail or whatever if you need to. I'll try to keep up with you as much as I can afford to now, especially if any urgent reply/help/advise is required on my side! =) Oh my cell phone here at the moment is (1) (714) 299-6891. I think I pay 5 cents for every text I send internationally and also very strangely, for every text received as well. Don't quite understand how this system works but whatever, I'm glad this faster option of getting hold of me is available too. I wonder if incoming calls are free for this service provider (called Cingullar) cos calling from US to s'pore is cheap. Get what I mean? =)
Love in Christ,
Benji
