What price happiness?

ARE Singaporeans happier when they have lots more money?
A study shows that people who have a university or postgraduate qualification and earn $5,000 or more a month are the happiest.
But they are also dissatisfied with their achievements and enjoy life the least, compared with those who are less well-off.
Indeed, it is the Singaporeans earning less than $2,000 a month who enjoy life the most, concluded the three academics behind the study.
Senior lecturer Tambyah Siok Kuan, associate professor Tan Soo Jiuan and professorial fellow Kau Ah Keng - all from the National University of Singapore Business School - presented their findings in a book, The Wellbeing Of Singaporeans, which came out recently.
The survey in 2006 polled more than 1,000 people, aged 20 to 69. They were posed questions such as whether they enjoy life, how happy they are, and how much they feel they are accomplishing what they want in life.

New Year Reflections

Time to reflect over the past year and see how we can change things for the better in 2010. In short, 2009 was made up of choices. Bad and good ones. All of us know the joy of making right choices and the regret of wrong ones. Well, as we make choices, choices make us. For 2010, if we want to reflect, we need to evaluate choices made from the past and change them if need be. Be it choices of work, friends, things we put our trust in and even food, we need to make changes if we desire a different result! Let's be wise to change where needed. Albert Einstein once said, "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result." Let's take his advice and start reflecting over choices made last year to see if we need change. God also talks about change. He says His truth can set us free. Free to change from the inside out - lasting change! He promises in His word that if anyone of us put our trust in the person of Jesus, we can be transformed in a new creation by faith! Many have considered, reflected and experienced a new beginning by simple faith in Him and His Word. And maybe for the past year, God has been bringing you to that point to trust in Him because you see the emptiness of other things and friends you've trusted in. Jesus is the perfect lover and friend of our souls! If we want a different brand new 2010, start it right by making a personal choice to recommit or trust in Jesus, His sacrifice for our sins, His resurrection for a brand new life in Him and His Word for personal guidance to our daily lives! Remember this is your choice, God loves us so much He will never force us. Don't forget things don't just happen. It's the choices we make. We make choices and choices we make in turn make us. Blessed new year!
